BAUHAUSIAN MANIFESTO
The Bauhaus did not emerge from comfort. It emerged from crisis.
It was born in a society rebuilding itself after war, economic collapse and social fracture. Industry was transforming labour, technology was reshaping daily life, and old hierarchies were losing legitimacy. The Bauhaus did not look backward for stability. It looked forward for new ways of living together.
The Bauhaus was not a style. It was a social and cultural response.
A response to a world in transformation — not only materially, but humanly. It questioned how we learn, how we work, how we collaborate and how culture is produced. It treated design not as individual expression, but as a collective responsibility.
Continuation
Bauhausian is not a revival. It is a continuation of a social project.
To be Bauhausian today means designing with others, not for applause. It means building systems that allow many voices to contribute. It means believing that shared knowledge is stronger than individual certainty.
The Bauhaus was interrupted. Bauhausian continues the experiment.
12 PRINCIPLES
1. Bauhausian is not a style. It is a way of thinking shaped by context, responsibility and use.
2. The Bauhaus emerged from crisis. So do the most relevant ideas. Comfort rarely produces change.
3. Design is a social act. Every decision shapes behaviour, access and inclusion.
4. There is no neutral design. Objects, systems and spaces always carry values.
5. Knowledge grows when it is shared. Design advances through collaboration, not isolated genius.
6. Everyone can contribute. Diversity of experience strengthens outcomes.
7. Form is not the starting point. Form is the consequence of purpose, context and use.
8. Systems matter more than objects. Design does not end at the artefact — it extends into life.
9. Education is an ongoing experiment. Learning happens through making, testing and questioning.
10. Repetition is not homage. Understanding requires reinterpretation, not imitation.
11. The Bauhaus was unfinished. Bauhausian remains unfinished by choice.
